This beer blog is called Pencil&Spoon. I write about beer, beer and food (including FABPOWs - the Food and Beer Pairing of the Week), beer and travel, beer and people and sometimes I write about wine and whisky or whatever comes into my head.
In December 2009 I won the British Guild of Beer Writers New Media Writer of the Year for this blog. Then in November 2010 I won the award again (renamed Online Communicator of the Year). In 2011 I won Beer and Food Writer of the Year, due in part to stick a can of Punk IPA up a chicken's arse. I now write as a freelancer with regular pieces on the Guardian’s Word of Mouth and a number of printed articles, including DRAFT and a chapter in On Nature.
As of September 2011 I work at Camden Town Brewery where I manage marketing, social media, branding, tastings, training bars and people and organising amazing events.

The origins of this blog started in food which is why it’s called Pencil&Spoon. I attached the tagline “beer with my pencil and spoon” because, in six words, it explained what it was all about and I’ve now grown attached to it, so it’s stuck, even if that now doesn't cover everything I write about. The real tagline is 'there's a story at the bottom of this bottle' which is what makes each beer special and is also a line from one of my favourite songs (and I've now got it tattooed on my arm).
